The Sedona Conference (TSC) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit 501(c)(3) research and educational institute dedicated to the advanced study of law and policy in the areas of antitrust law, complex litigation, intellectual property rights, and data security and privacy law. The mission of TSC is to move the law forward in a reasoned and just way through the creation and publication of nonpartisan consensus commentaries and through advanced legal education for the bench and bar.

John Pappas, UnitedLex Sr. Director of eDiscovery Solutions, is attending this year’s Working Group (WG13) annual gathering and will be speaking on a panel titled: The Importance of Getting Your AI Definitions Right. As AI continues to transform the legal landscape, the need for a clear, consistent vocabulary has never been more urgent. This session will highlight the work of the AI Consensus Definitions brainstorming group, which is developing foundational definitions to support legal analysis, policy development, and professional guidance around AI technologies. The panel will present the group’s progress to date, share the working outline of key terms and concepts, and engage attendees in a dialogue about the project’s direction. A central question will be whether the initiative is ready to transition from brainstorming to the drafting phase – shaping the language that will underpin Sedona’s – as well as the legal profession’s – engagement with AI.
