UnitedLex and Polsinelli Named American Lawyer Industry Awards Finalists for Best Provider Collaboration

Published:

Unique Partner Law Firm Program Recognized

UnitedLex has been named a finalist for the American Lawyer Industry Awards in the Best Provider Collaboration category with long-time client Polsinelli. UnitedLex and Polsinelli are being honored for their unique Partner Law Firm Program, which has allowed them to work with a medical device company to transform its previously fragmented patent application process into a seamless approach with predictable budgeting and exemplary results.

“We are honored to receive this recognition from the American Lawyer for our work in providing a reasonably priced and high-quality patent application deliverable under a fixed fee to our growing medical device client,” said Matthew Joyce, Senior VP of IP, Legal Ops & Contracts at UnitedLex. “By working so closely together through our Partner Law Firm Program, and maintaining constant communication with our client, we have been able to consolidate a patent portfolio with one, preeminent AmLaw 100 firm for a fixed fee, similar to what smaller firms could do. This partnership allows each party to do what they do best, so we can deliver optimal results to the client.”

UnitedLex and Polsinelli began working with the client nearly three years ago on a small percentage of its patent portfolio. Because of the strong partnership between UnitedLex’s professionals, who manage increased volumes of work and complex tasks, and Polsinelli’s sophisticated, knowledgeable patent attorneys, they now manage virtually all the company’s 200-plus patent portfolio.

According to Andrew Z. Weaver, Medical Devices & Mechanical Engineering Patent Prosecution Vice Chair and International IP Lead at Polsinelli, trust and coordination are key to the success of this partnership and is at the core of the Partner Law Firm Program, “This is all about cooperation. We know each other so well and have iterated the workflows to make sure that the results are what the client desires. Getting three parties in sync is no easy task.”

The American Lawyer’s annual Industry Awards highlight the legal industry’s most impactful and important work of the past year. Winners will be announced at a gala on Nov. 13 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York.
