After taking the helm of UnitedLex’s newly launched innovation program, UnitedLex chief product and innovation officer Aaron Crews discusses why the new effort is needed, what it hopes to achieve, and how it positions UnitedLex for the future. In his interview with Rhys Dipshan, legal tech reporter for ALM’s Legaltech News, Crews highlights the company’s new focus on internal innovation, or how the company works and how it delivers work for clients, and external-facing innovation that allows them to solve increasing numbers of client pain points that today are unaddressed.
“To continue to achieve cost out, while at the same time increasing the value legal brings to a corporation, you have to think about new ways of working…
[But] at the end of the day, law firms are not data or technology companies, they’re law firms. … So I think the legal industry is at a very sharp inflection point that’s probably going to run out over the next three to five, maybe seven years, where technology is going to allow for a very aggressive disaggregation of how legal services get delivered.”
